RESPIRATIONS — SERIES (2021)
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
4 variations (90×100 cm) and 1 centerpiece (156×195 cm).
Comprehensive installation documented on-site at the studio.
THE PROTOCOL:
1 – Variation of a single figure,
2 – Backgrounds machined close to identical,
3 – A common pedestal,
4 – The amplitude of the line.
↗ CARNET : SAMPLINGS – RESPIRATIONS
STUDIO SLAG
Initially named « Solutions », this series follows the hacking of the figures from the previous daily paintings device (Cartes). Still in search of a form of control to attempt to marry opposites, I draw my figure from the remnants of the latest construction site.
I focus my attention on a studio detail and sample a pour of paint to reserve it in a plastic packaging. The protocol marks a rupture: the unconscious fades away in favor of a stimulus from reality. From now on, the approach relies on the sampling and observation of a unique object, deploying it no longer within a square, but horizontally: the line.
After having « machined » fixed and identical geometric backgrounds, mirroring industrial matrices, I inject the initial shape at the center to modulate it.
Under the effect of a vertical thrust, the first two variations slide slightly out of the original square format to reach 90 × 100 cm. The maximum oscillation occurs on the centerpiece: « La Reine ». Its larger dimensions (156 × 195 cm) were absolutely dictated by the architectural limitations and evacuation volumes of the apartment-studio.
This plastic research aims for the amplitude of the measurement in order to determine the subject's tension: capturing the final state of the paint.
